This video is an Animation Park’s Land 2 created using a photographic collage originally produced for the painting Park’s Park 12.
It reveals how fragmented images of contemporary society lose their original contexts and are reborn as new works of art, and how the ‘production process’ itself becomes a critical weapon against the capitalist art market.
[Details]
- Reconfiguration and subversion of images
Scenes extracted from everyday visual environments—such as films, advertisements, and television—are stripped of their original functions and repositioned on the surface. Through the process in which familiar signs lose their fixed meanings and are generated anew, the work raises fundamental questions about the nature of the images we consume.
- A strategy in which the ‘process’ becomes the ‘work’
In order to expose the reality that pure art exists under the structural influence of capital, the artist presents every intermediate stage required to produce a single artwork as an independent work in its own right.
The photographic collage → drawing → painting forms a sequential chain of creation, while the photographic work Edge series-Actor Park Kwangil documents the beginning and end of the video work Theater series- 3min 54sec. Such a methodology contains a critical insight into the indiscriminate art market that, at the time, was consumed largely for speculative purposes.
